Hiba Kalache

Hiba Kalache est une artiste libanaise dont la pratique englobe l’installation, le dessin, la peinture et la sculpture. Elle puise dans sa vie quotidienne ses matériaux (aliments, verre, fil métallique…), son processus, son inspiration. Kalache s’interroge sur la séparation entre les sphères privée et publique, et plus particulièrement sur ce qu’elle appelle « la banalité des rituels quotidiens», ainsi que sur la définition du « chez soi » et de l’appartenance sociale.

Elle s’est récemment intéressée à la relation entre les textes et les images. Réalisée dans une période de crises sociohistoriques et existentielles prolongées, cette oeuvre est en accord avec son temps: elle expose nos désirs ambivalents à l’égard de la réalité actuelle, à la fois fantasme et cauchemar vivant. Le geste est fragile, intime et intuitif, l’oeuvre lumineuse et pleine de rage. Kalache a essuyé les rues avec ses toiles pendant le soulèvement qui a duré plusieurs mois à partir du 17 octobre 2019, et les marques qui en résultent ont ensuite été mélangées avec du charbon de bois et des encres de couleur.

Dans l’oeuvre de Kalache, le désir est représenté par des motifs érotiques partiels (ventre, sein, phallus, orteil, cuisse, anus et oeil…) que le spectateur voit ou ne voit pas selon sa disposition d’esprit. Oscillant entre l’automatisme et l’intention, ses coups de pinceau évoquent des rayons de soleil ou des taches d’excréments. Ainsi, ce qui était brièvement beau apparaît maintenant déformé.

Hiba Kalache est une artiste libanaise née en 1972. Elle vit et travaille à Beyrouth.
