Constance Ziegler
A 2009 graduate of Penninghen, Constance Ziegler explored video art, graphic design, and oil painting before being seized by a passion for tufted carpets.
For the artist, the sensory dimension of a work is as important as its aesthetic appeal. Tufting seems to be the perfect solution for the distance between a painting and its viewer: contact is deliberately desacralized by the purpose of the carpet and the object, shaking up our relationship with art.
In her first carpet collection, inspired by the seabed, the artist dips into her bobbins as can of paints, giving color a prominent place in her artistic production. She explores the technique of modern tapestry, using her tufting gun to transform her watercolor drawings into fish, coral, and starfish.
For the 2023 edition of Private Choice, Constance Ziegler merges worlds by creating sculptural stools, combining art, craft, and design. Her two textile creations impose their presence in the middle of any room, their trains embrace the floor like a carpet with a daring diversity of colors and reliefs.
