Laura Sattin

Born in Vincenza, Italy, Laura Sattin combines her architect career as an architect with her work as an artist. Her contemporary glass works, created and blown in her Swiss studio near Basel, are based on traditional craftsmanship. Attentive to perpetuate traditional expertise, the artist works with glassmakers to perpetuate glass-blowing techniques that are as rare as they are complex.

In 2023, Private Choice presented two pieces from its new series, using a process known as “double incalmo”, notoriously difficult: four or six hands are required to graft the three colored glasses, blown individually. The materials are fused together under heat, giving rise to a singular trichromatic effect, which is then covered by a thick transparent layer. The artist plays with the chromatic circle to create colorful vases, alternating between complementary color combinations and natural, autumnal shades.
