Luisa Maisel
The ceramic creations of Luisa Maisel tell us a story, the meeting of an artistic culture with a craft technique, colored with an American identity. More than 35 years ago, the artist decided to leave New York, her hometown, for Nice. She brings with her the pop culture of the United States, found in her art through vibrant hues, playful forms, and an accumulation of everyday objects.
The narrative thread of her series Another Dinner Party recalls a masterpiece made by Judy Chicago between 1974 and 1979, entitled “The Dinner Party” (Brooklyn Museum, NYC). The artist offers her contemporary interpretation of the installation by dedicating a plate to each woman artist who touched and inspired her. These revisited portraits are painted on large Audrey Blackman porcelain plates, turned, painted by hand, and presented with a spoon and a cup.
For its 2023 edition, Private Choice presents 10 copies chosen among the 39 made: discover the different names in the dining room.
