Olivier Ratsi

Olivier Ratsi’s work poses objective reality, time, space and matter as intangible information. He creates works that lead the viewer to question his own interpretation of reality.

During the creation process, Olivier Ratsi implements devices of deconstruction of the space-time reference marks while being based on the anamorphism technique. He quotes codes of conical perspective, a method of visual representation theorized by Leon Battista Alberti in his treatise De Pictura (1435).

The geometrical images he elaborates are not visible at first sight: it is necessary to move around the space to find the vanishing point that will make the work appear.

Thus, as a spectator, anamorphism tests our capacities to deconstruct / reconstruct what we perceive, by questioning us on what we think we are seeing and what we really  see.

The subjective experience of the spectator is fundamental in the work of Olivier Ratsi because it allows to apprehend the work in a phenomenological way. The world surrounding us is not such as it appears to us at first sight.

This study of the phenomena of perception led Olivier Ratsi to the Perspicere project. By the attempt to freeze the vanishing point in a sculpture, Perspicere materializes this mental space and gives an understanding of this ocular phenomenon.
